The plans of the generals |
French attack Plan |
Russian withdrawal Plan |
The French will hold the Russian right while vigorously pushing
across Reichenbach in order to cut the Marksdorf road with the
cavalry. The Russians will try to hold Reichenbach and the heights
behind, while concentrating the cavalry in the left flank. |
The first actions (9.00-10.45 h) |
The french approach Reichenbach |
The Old Guard Light cavalry outflanking th tiwn |
Reynier advances with the french at left and the Saxons towards the
town (the wrong choice!) |
The first cavalry clash finish with the bouncing of both sides |
The Jagers do not defebd
the cemetery, immediately occupied by the Saxons |
The Russian artillery
pounding the French |
The Russian cavalry holds the Old
Guard Light cavalry (11.00-12.00h) |
11.00 h. The Old Guard Lanciers break through the Russian Mounted
Chasseurs... |
... but they are halted by the Russian Uhlans and both sides bounce |
It is now the turn for the Russians dragoons that reject the Old
Guard Lanciers, stabilizing the flank |
12.00 The Old Guard
Chasseurs rout the Russian Hussars with heavy losses... |
... but are dispersed by
Russian Uhlans! |
The Red Lanciers rout the
Uhlans and, battlemad, disperse the Russian guns also suffering
heavy losses |
The fight in the center (11.15 -
13.00 h) |
The Reichenbach Jaeger garrison is evicted! (11.15 h.) |
and the Jaegers from the cemetery are routed by French Line |
but their Line comrades halt the jubilant French |
whereas the Russian square hold out the Lanciers de Berg |
11.30 h. The Saxons fail against the Russian Line (Tob/1/4/II)
before the cemetery |
while the Wurzburgers take the Russian battery only to re-pass the
stream, after been routed by the Russian Reserve |
12.00 h. The Russian Tob/1/4/II Reg. is almost encircled but
defiantly maintain the position |
But Durutte takes control dispersing the Russians (12.15 h.) |
The Russian center gives way slowly |
and the French cross the stream (12.30 h) |
while the Red Lanciers are dispersed by Russian dragoons |
which imprudently attack the Old Guard Volante, being crushed by the
vigilant Gendarmes |
whereas the Lanciers de Berg halt again more Russian dragoons (12.45
h) |
The French infantry routs a Russian square |
while the Wurzburgers disperse another Russian Regiment (13.00 h) |
The last combats (13.15 - 13.30h) |
(13.15 h) The (2/1LC/I) Cambraceres Brigade routs the Russian
Pahlen's Dragoons |
while the Lanciers de Berg disperse another Russian dragoon Brigade |
only to be routed by another additional Russian dragoon brigade! |
which breaks before the omnipresent Old Guard Gendarmes |
13.15 h. The Russian center and left are broken and their cavalry is
blocked around Marksdorff |
13.30 h. The wuzburgers are dispersed after a combined-arms Russian
attack |
The doubtful Saxons close on the Russian reserves arrived form the
right |
Napoleon is anxiously watching the scene |
and before that to risk his precious Cuirassier Regiments, he
concedes the pursuit |
FINAL RESULTS |
Napoleon has risked and lost his Old Guard Light Cavalry and the
Russians retired, relatively un-molested, under the protection of
their numerous cavalry. Reynier made the wrong choice attacking with
the Saxons and demosntrating with the French! |
