solo wargaming with napoleon's battles
I use the second edition of
Battles edited by Five Forks (NB2). The rule-set is not intended for
solitaire (or solo) play, so the rules must be adapted to avoid
biases favouring one of the sides and to break the semi-eternal draws
arising from taking two opposing sides in sucession.
The impartiality is strongly depending from the solo player but the randomization of some situations also becomes a great help.
RANDOMIZATION OF UNFORMED MOVEMENTS
Mandatory movements such as evasion, bouncing, recalling, withdrawal and routing are randomized.
- If a General officer is attached to the unit, the movement is carried out as per the rules, so the allowed distance is depending on the player intentions (taking into account the 1" restriction for some movements).
- When there is not a General officer attached the actual distance of movement for all movements excepting rout (i.e. evasion, bouncing, failed recall and withdrawal) is calculated as being the theoretical allowed x 1D10 x 0.1.
- For routing moves (with no Gneral attached) I use 1D10 and the following table (in cm)
VARYING Arrival times
This optional rule is always used in combination with specific Scenario rules.
Do not use “10” as Response number of the C-i-C’s but use the values assigned to them as Corps Commanders.
