THE FIGHTING IN THE SUBIJANA HEIGHTS
8.00 - 13.30 h
8.00 - 10.30h. Morillo's Spanish infantry clashes with Maransin's brigade (1B/5/M) that stands holding his terrain
11.00 -11.30 h. The Hill's British replace the Spanish in the fight line and finally Maransin is dispersed 12.30 h -13.30 h. Villate (3/M) try to cover the French right open flank but is routed by the Hill's men
       
THE CAVALRY BATTLE AND THE ARRIVAL OF THE ALLIED CENTRAL COLUMNS
12.00 - 13.30 h. Several charges and counter-charges result in the dispersal of the French Horse Artillery and the K.G.L. dragoons  (with P. Soult becoming prisoner)
11.30 h. Kempt and Grant arrive at Tres Puentes 12.30 h. Delhousie and Picton arrive at Mendoza 13.30 h. The British right trying outflank Zumelzu whereas the left faces up the Ariñez heigths
       
THE FIGHT AROUND ARIÑEZ
14.00 h. Avy try, without success, stop Picton D'Armagnac closes the gap in the French right flank and the artillery also stops Delhousie 14.30 h. and Picton can not take the Ariñez heights
15.00 h. Avy at last routs Picton's Highlanders but the Portuguese reject him 15.00 h. The French center resists the British attcks (4th and 2nd Divisions)
15.30 - 16.00 h. After an initial repulse, the British infantry routs the French center 16.00 h and the Hill's Portuguese take Zumelzu
16.30 - 17.30 h The Light Division (1B/LD) storms and takes the Ariñez heights whereas Picton rejects the French extreme right
 
THE FIGHTING IN THE SUBIJANA HEIGHTS IS FINISHED
14.30 h. The French left is assaulted by Morillo's men 16.30 - 17.30 h. and Villatte is at last expulsed from the heights
 
THE FRENCH CENTER COLLAPSES
17.30 -18.00 h. British Dragoons and infantry rout Conroux around Zumelzu 18.00 h. Alten also takes Ariñez village (2B/LD) so the French center becomes 'encircled'
19.00 h The French Grand Batterie must retire... ...whereas the 1B/LD is dispersed... ...and the Rheinbund brigade retires after a fierce fighting with Picton's Highlanders
 
... AND JOSEPH CONCEDES THE DAY
19.00 h The French have been expelled from the first line and Joseph orders retreat protected by his cavalry. The French army will retire in a relatively good order but all the geographic objectives are abandoned

SUBSTANTIAL ALLIED VICTORY


ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
The Allied got a substantial victory because of the French loss of all the geographical objectives, but if only the losses are taken into account, the battle is still a (more adjusted) Allied victory.
However, the presence of a strong French cavalry contingent will difficult the British pursuit and this, combined with the French victory achieved in the Vitoria North scenario, somewhat diminishes the extent of the Allied victory.
