solo wargaming with napoleon's battles
I use the second edition of
Napoleon's
Battles edited by Five Forks (NB2). The rule-set is not intended
for solitaire (or solo) play, so the rules must be adapted to
avoid biases favouring one of the sides and to break the
semi-eternal draws arising from taking two opposing sides in
sucession.
The impartiality is strongly depending from the solo player but the
randomization of some situations also becomes a great help.
RANDOMIZATION OF UNFORMED MOVEMENTS
Mandatory movements such as evasion, bouncing, recalling,
withdrawal and routing are randomized.
- If a General officer is attached to the unit, the movement is
carried out as per the rules, so the allowed distance is depending
on the player intentions (taking into account the 1" restriction for
some movements).
- When there is not a General officer attached the
actual distance of movement for all movements excepting rout
(i.e. evasion, bouncing, failed recall and withdrawal) is calculated
as being the theoretical allowed x 1D10 x 0.1.
- For routing moves (with no Gneral attached) I use 1D10 and
the following table (in cm)

VARYING Arrival times
This optional rule is always used in combination
with specific Scenario rules.
C-i-C ratings
Do not use “10” as Response number of the C-i-C’s but use the
values assigned to them as Corps Commanders.
