dresden (august 26, 1813)

INTRODUCTION
The Allied Sovereigns attack the Saxon capital but Napoleon runs to sucoour it.

HOUSE RULES
The order of battle (OOB) is based on the given by Lamont Anderson (Colorado Springs Games Association):

with small corrections according to the book of George Nafziger 'NAPOLEON AT DRESDEN: THE BATTLES OF AUGUST 1813' (Chicago Emperor's Press 1994). Due to space limitations of the game-table the Manconi field-works have benn not used.
The second edition of Napoleon's Battles edited by Five Forks has been used with some modifications:
1) The cavalry scale is also 1/120
2) Units of infantry with less than four elements were allowed to display the French light infantry regiments and the units of the French III Corps (Davout)
3) All the optional rules have been used if necessary

THE BATTLE IN PICTURES

THE FIGHT AT THE GROSSEN GARTENS
From left to right (1) At 7.30 h the Prussian enter the Grossen Gartens routing a French brigade; (2) and (3) In the following turn, a combined Prussian attack is initially rejected by the French light infantry but (4) finally the French must evacuate the park.
 
AND IN THE REDOUBT No. 1
From left to right (1) 8.00 h the Dresden garrison routs two Russian units at the redoubt No. 1 and (2) the French Light infantry in line also routs Russian attacking infantry; at 9.30 h (3) and (4) the French make a sortie and further reject the Russian infantry. The attack is stopped
 
THE AUSTRIANS ATTACK FRIEDRICHSTADT
From left to right (1) At 9.30 h the Croats rout the French infantry but are dispersed (too much losses from fire); (2) and (3) The other brigades enter in combat but (4) finally the Croats must withdraw disordered; (5) the French cavalry routs the Croat's artillery. The attack is stopped.
From left to right (1), (2) and (3) 10.00 h. The Austrians expulse the French cavalry and contact the suburb. (4) the Austrians repel the French infantry in the suburb.
 
... AND ARE EXPELLED
From left to right: (1), (2) 10.30 h: the first Austrian brigada es espelled; (3) 11.00 h the second one enters in the suburb and after routing a French brigade (4) is finally dispersed (5).
 
THE POWER OF THE OLD GUARD
10.30 h. The Old Guard infantry makes an 'all-out' attack: from left to right (1) and (2) the Austrian are rejected with 6 losses although the Old Guard does not rout them; )3) Austrian kuirassiers on react attack the Old Guard that forms square and repels them; (4) the other brigade destroys the Austrian infantry.
11.30 h from left to right (1) and (2) the Old Guard disperse the Austrian infantry in the withdrawal step, if well the Franch cavlry bounced after the combat turn. (3) After resolving the bottle-neck in the pontoons, the Jeune Guard deploys under the protection of the Old Guard. The French right flak is now sure
